The Mechanism of Time Perception

Time is one of the most complicated “things” that has always baffled scientists, thinkers and philosophers alike. Since times immemorial, time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy and science. Despite the scientific advances we have made, we have not been able to define time (without the definition itself involving time) and our understanding of time remains where it was centuries ago.

However, I believe, we can get a better understanding of time itself if we decipher the human brain’s mechanism of time perception.

How can the mechanism of time perception be deciphered ?

I believe that the mechanism of time perception is a biochemical process (i.e. a set of reactions). And it may be possible to decipher the exact steps this reaction involves. (But I am not sure about this!)

Certain materials are known to effect the mechanism of time perception. THC i.e. delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is known to slow down time perception. It may be possible to tag THC with radioactive carbon and trace its chemical motion in brain cells of specific centers and deduce the reactions involved.

Testosterone and other sex hormones may also have an effect on the mechanism of time perception (based on the fact that children perceive time differently from adults).

This is just an idea. It has no proof and the idea may work or may not or may be totally wrong!
