On-page Search Engine Optimization Checklist

Notepad-pencil

You may be aware that search engine optimization involves two sections: on-page and off-page. Search engine take many factors into consideration while ranking your page. To perform well in the search engines it is important to ensure that your web page is optimized properly for all the factors.

This is a checklist for on-page optimization. If you follow all the points on this checklist, you will improve your chances of reaching the top of search engines in a short period of time and your site/blog will see a good amount of targeted traffic.

On-page Search Engine Optimization Checklist

Did you select the right keywords using Wordtracker or a similar tool?

Did you include the keywords in the name of the file?

Did you include the keywords in the title tag?

Did you include the keywords in the description and keywords meta tags?

Did you include the keywords in H1 and H2 tags?

Did you bolden and emphasize the keywords in your web copy?

Does your web copy have the right keyword density for your selected keywords?

Did you use the keywords in the first and last paragraphs of your web copy?

Did you use images in your page and name the images after the keywords?

Did you use the keywords in the image alt tags?

Did you link to other related web pages from your page?

Have you checked your web copy for spelling mistakes?

If you successfully pass this checklist, your web page is optimized for on-page factors. You should now optimize for off-page factors.

Live and Yahoo! give more importance to on-page factors and so if you wait for sometime, you will see traffic from these two search engines even when you make no off-page optimization efforts. Google, on the other hand, takes off-page factors into consideration, and so you or may not see traffic from Google. Since Google is much more popular than the other two search engines, it is better to concentrate more efforts on the off-page factors. The traffic Google will send is well worth the time and effort.

I will write another checklist for off-page optimization…but later.
